Dear Guests, It has been five years since we opened Gordion Hotel.  The idea of building an exclusive hotel came during a chat with my father at the headquarters of our construction company in Ankara.  I was a young diplomat at the time,  recently returned from a posting in Athens.  I was thinking of resigning from the Foreign Ministry to start working at the private sector.  I was so overwhelmed by the exciting idea of bulding a special hotel inspired by the rich historical and cultural background of the country, I immediately started working on the project.  We completed the construction and decoration of  Gordion Hotel in  a short period of  one and a half years.  I was responsible from the complete interior design concept as well as the institutional identity. All the furniture, textiles, leathers, lamps, wall-floor coverings, hand-woven carpets, cast brass, silverware, all accessories, hundreds of details that form the interior of a hotel were selected by myself one by one after extensive research. All the selected models were made by the skilled craftsmen of Ankara and Istanbul. Many of the accessories (for instance, the cast brass lamps) were hand-made by the craftsmen of the world-famous Grand Bazaar. All the textiles were selected from the Ottoman Textiles Collection of Vakko, one of Turkey’s most  exclusive brands, stylising the ancient Ottoman textile patterns on the clothes of  Ottoman emperors found at Topkapı Palace. We tried to harmonise  Classic and Ottoman styles to  create warmth and character.  I tried to add personality to the decoration by displaying my own collections of antique engravings, litographs, and maps from 16, 17 and 18th centuries on the walls of the hotel. I also put on display my antique Ottoman and European medals and orders I have been collecting since I was a university student. My father,  a mechanical engineer with  an experience of 35 years in  owning and managing a large scale construction company, put forth his vast experience during the construction process of Gordion Hotel. He almost never left the construction site, working relentlessly on the construction and infrastructural details in order to provide the most comfortable environment for our guests. The close cooperation of an engineer-businessman father and a son with diplomacy background created a place with an energetic, home-like feel, communicating with its guests, as well as an excellent technical infrastructure.
